Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment. According to Akpoti-Uduaghan, the incident occurred in December, a day before their shared birthdays, during a visit to Akpabio’s country home in Akwa Ibom.
Akpoti-Uduaghan recounted the alleged incident on ARISE NEWS ‘Morning Show’, stating that Akpabio made inappropriate remarks while showing her around his house. She claimed he held her hands, walking from room to room, and commented on the beautiful interiors. When Akpabio asked if she liked his house, Akpoti-Uduaghan responded positively, but things took a turn when he said, “Now you are a senator, I am going to create time for us to come create quality moments here. You will enjoy it”
Akpoti-Uduaghan immediately pulled away, unsure of what Akpabio meant. This allegation comes amid a heated dispute between the two senators, which began with a controversy over Akpoti-Uduaghan’s seat in the Senate chamber.
The dispute escalated when Akpabio ordered sergeants-at-arms to remove Akpoti-Uduaghan from the chamber after she refused to move to a new seat assigned to her. Akpoti-Uduaghan objected, citing Order 10 and claiming her privileges had been breached.
This development has sparked concerns about the treatment of female lawmakers in Nigeria’s political space, with some calling for a thorough investigation into Akpabio’s actions.
