National Anti-Corruption Marathon: Organizers declare readiness for 2nd Edition

Organizers of the National Anti-Corruption Marathon race, tagged ‘Abuja 2019’ scheduled to hold in Abuja have declared their readiness for the now annual event.

Addressing news men in Abuja on Monday in Abuja, National Co-coordinator of the race, Jacob Onu said they have put machinery in place to ensure that this year’s edition meet the standard required for the International Athletics Federations, (IAAF) to recognize and subsequently add the marathon to its calendar, stressing also that they do intend to make it an international marathon from next edition.

He maintained that they are also working hard to not only build on the successes of the 1st edition, but to also improve on it., “So far, more Athletes have registered to participate and registration is still on going. Registration is free and online. To register, visit www.nationalanticorruption.org.ng.”

He explained further, “The total distance of the race is 21.03km, (approximately a half marathon), covering a total area of 23.04km2. The flg off start point is the Eagles Square. Athletes will run through the marathon route and finish at the Eagles Square. This makes the start and finish points the same,” he said.

Jacob Onu noted, “On Monday, December 9th by 8.00am, the 2nd edition is expected to be flagged off by our country’s number one citizen, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, in company of other prominent citizens of our dear Nation to commemorate this year’s United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day,” she concluded.
