New PDP National Chairman, Ayu speaks on relationship with Tinubu, Governors Who Joined APC

The battle to reposition the PDP has started as former Senate President Iyorchia Ayu has officially been elected the National Chairman at the National Convention of the PDP.

He has a difficult task which is to rebrand PDP so that the party can win the 2023 presidential election.

Ayu has officially granted his first interview where he revealed 2 vital things about Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the 3 PDP Governors who defected to APC according to Vanguard newspaper.

That will form the basis of our discussion in this article.

What are the important things Ayu revealed about Tinubu and Governors that dumped PDP for APC?

1) Tinubu used to be his political associate

Some Nigerians see Tinubu as someone who doesn’t associate with PDP politicians because he has never been a member of the party rather he built his party. But I doubt if they know the political history of Tinubu.

The newly-elected National Chairman of the PDP has just revealed that he and Tinubu fought on the same side to ensure that the election that produced Abiola was free and fair.

Not many will believe that Ayu has been active in politics since 1993 when IBB annulled the election which was believed to have been won by Abiola.

However, things could not go as planned as he and Tinubu parted ways. Tinubu joined NADECO, the popular political movement that fought the military government of Abacha.

Ayu then joined G9, G18, and G38 that later led to the formation of PDP in 1998. All thanks to the late Dr. Alex Ekwueme who was the nucleus of the PDP then.

2) PDP Governors who defected to APC have told me they made mistakes

One selling point of Ayu is that many PDP members believe in him and they see him as someone who believes in internal democracy, justice, and fairness.

I am not surprised that he said the PDP Governors who left the party for APC upon hearing that he will become the next National Chairman called him to say that they made mistakes.

Could it possibly mean that these Governors will return to the party? Only time will tell.
