Minister of Labor and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige has stated that as a parent and for the fact that none of his children is schooling abroad he is also affected by the continuous strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union, ASUU while stressing that it is for this reason he is so desirous of seeing to the resolution of the crisis.
Ngige made this revelation while reeponding to the plea by the president of the National Association of Nigeria Students,NANS, Comrade Danielson Bamidele Akpan who pleaded with the ministers during goverment negotiations with ASU on Monday that the proceedings be made public by allowing members of the press in the meeting.
NANS president noted that it has become expedient for their negotiations to be made public to avoid situation where members of the public are denied the real truth from the meeting. He maintained that as students they are the worst hit by the continuous strike by ASUU and so demand that whatever needed to be done to resolve the matter should be done.
The minister then pleaded with the NANS leadership who stormed the meeting uninvited to be patient with them while assuring that members of the press would be briefed the real truth, and also promised to involve them during the press conference to allow them ask whatsoever questions they may have after the meeting.
And while trying to press home his plea, Ngige informed the NANS team that he feel the pain they were feeling stressing that none of his children is schooling abroad, and would also want the crisis to be resolved on time.
He promised that the Monday meeting with ASUU will surely come up with something positive that Nigerians would love.
