The Virtuous Women Association of Nigeria (VWAN), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) has donated food and clothing materials to 100 women and children at the Wassa Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Abuja.
VWAN founder, Mrs Christiana David-Kolo disclosed this while presenting the items to the beneficiaries on Sunday in Abuja.
She said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the hardship being faced by the IDPs.

“We came here to support the IDPs, especially women and children because of the suffering they are passing through.

“They left their places not that it is their wish but because of the situation in the country that has made them to find themselves in this condition today.

“It is worthy for me to come and see them, talk to them; let’s celebrate with them in this season, most especially the children.

“They are suffering and it is our concern to come and show love to them too,’’ David-Kolo said.
She said that although the Federal Government was trying its best to cushion the IDPs plights.
“I believe the government can still do more for them,’’ said said.

She said the organisation decided to visit the camp because the IDPs’ situation was nothing to write home about.

“So, we brought food items like bags of rice and clothing materials for women and children; even some men too will benefit, ’’ she said.

David-Koko sought to partner with the government to give succour to the less privileged.
Hafsat Ahmad, the women leader at Wassa IDPs camp, enumerated the challenges facing the camp, which included lack of potable water, healthcare and toilet facilities.

Ahmad hinted that about 5,100 IDPs were living in the camp.

She also called on well-meaning Nigerians to assist in solving the problems confronting the displaced persons in the camp.
She thanked the NGO for the gesture. (NAN)
