As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mallam Shehu Mohammed, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all Nigerians, calling for peace, patriotism, and safe celebrations across the country.

In his goodwill message issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the Corps Marshal described Independence Day as a moment of national reflection and rededication to the ideals of unity, sacrifice, and commitment to nation-building.

“October 1 is a reminder that every patriotic citizen must remain loyal to the spirit of nation building, patriotism, and peaceful coexistence for enhanced economic prosperity,” Mohammed said.

He urged citizens to celebrate with prayers and caution, stressing that “it is only those who are alive that can celebrate.”

The FRSC boss also warned of increased vehicular and human movement during the anniversary period, noting that the Corps has rolled out special patrols to manage traffic nationwide. He advised motorists to strictly adhere to road safety rules to avoid accidents and disruption of public peace.

“Any traffic violator apprehended for offences such as route violation, dangerous driving, drink driving, and traffic light disobedience will have their vehicles impounded to serve as deterrence,” he cautioned.

While acknowledging that this year’s celebration does not feature major national events, Mohammed urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, drive responsibly, and embrace peace as the nation reflects on its journey since independence.

He concluded by wishing all Nigerians a safe and happy Independence Day, while praying for prosperity, unity, and harmony among citizens.
