The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a clarification regarding a video circulating on social media, which captures a tragic shooting incident involving some of its operatives. The Service wishes to state that the incident in question occurred on Sunday, February 17, 2019, and not recently, as portrayed by some online platforms.
According to the NCS, the incident happened at the Shagamu Interchange in Ogun State, and the Service took immediate steps to address the situation. A public statement was issued at the time, and a disciplinary panel was established to investigate the matter thoroughly. The officers found culpable were subsequently dismissed.
The NCS emphasized that it is a statutory government agency guided by rules of engagement and will not condone any misconduct from its personnel. The issue had been conclusively addressed, and justice was served in accordance with the Service’s regulations.
The Service acknowledges the concerns expressed by members of the public regarding the resurfaced video and urges citizens to avoid spreading misleading content. Instead, they should seek accurate information through NCS official channels.
