The Nigeria-Italy Business Summit, scheduled to hold from May 21st to 23rd, 2025, promises to revitalize the bilateral business relationship between Nigeria and Italy.
The summit’s promoter and chairman, Amb. Engr. Augustine Chigbolu, stated this while speaking with Daily Sun and Sunnewsonline about the event and its potential benefits for Nigeria.
According to Chigbolu, the summit aims to attract foreign direct investments, create jobs, and improve export opportunities for Nigeria. The Italian government has shown its commitment to the summit through the Italian Embassy in Abuja.
Chigbolu attributed the decline in business relations between the two countries to neglect, likening bilateral relationships to flowers that need nurturing to thrive. He emphasized that the summit would provide a platform for Nigerian and Italian businesses to forge new partnerships and strengthen existing ones.
The summit has received institutional support from the Federal Government, although financial support from corporate organizations and captains of industry has been limited. Chigbolu expressed optimism that the event would pave the way for Nigerian banks to expand their operations into Italy, citing the inclusion of financial services in the summit’s agenda.
When asked about Alitalia’s cessation of operations to Nigeria, Chigbolu explained that the airline’s bankruptcy led to its withdrawal. He noted that Italy’s new national carrier, ITA, might consider flying Nigerian routes in the future.
The Nigeria-Italy Business Summit promises to be a significant step towards strengthening economic ties between the two nations. With prominent Nigerians in Italy expected to attend, the event is poised to foster new business opportunities and reinforce existing relationships.
