The Nigerian military has recorded notable victories in its ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations, according to the Defence Headquarters’ quarterly report. Between April and June 2025, troops across various theatres demonstrated exceptional courage, resilience, and professionalism in encounters with non-state actors.
Briefing the media recently in at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General MARKUS KANGYE highlighted the achievements.
He noted that 682 terrorists and their families surrendered to troops, largely attributed to sustained aerial and ground offensives.
DHQ says several top terrorist commanders were eliminated, including Amir Abu Fatimah, Kingpin Auta, Abdul Jamilu, Salisu, Mallam Jidda, Maiwada, Mai Dada, and Nwachi Eze, while over 1,191 suspects were arrested, and 543 kidnapped victims were rescued.
He said troops of Operation DELTA SAFE foiled oil theft worth over N3.5 billion, recovering 2,381,239 litres of stolen crude oil and destroying 174 illegal refining sites.
While also jighlighting the success stories of the various Operations by Joint Task Forces, he stated;
– *Operation HADIN KAI (North East):* Troops killed several terrorists, arrested 32, and recovered arms and ammunition.
– *Operation FASAN YAMMA (North West):* Troops eliminated several terrorists, rescued four kidnapped victims, and recovered arms and ammunition.
– *Operation SAFE HAVEN (North Central):* Troops killed extremists, arrested nine suspected criminals, and rescued six kidnapped victims.
– *Operation DELTA SAFE (South-South):* Troops foiled crude oil theft, destroyed illegal refining sites, and arrested 12 oil thieves.
– *Operation UDO KA (South East):* Troops arrested 21 suspects dealing in illicit drugs and recovered arms, ammunition, and IED-making materials.
Concluding his speech he noted that the military’s commitment to defending national integrity and ensuring peace is evident in these operations. The Defence Headquarters commended troops for their bravery, resilience, and professionalism, assuring Nigerians that the military observes the Code of Conduct for Internal Security Operations, Laws of Armed Conflict, and Rules of Engagement.
