Defending champions Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) failed to retain their crown at the 20th edition of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG), as Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) delivered a strong performance to emerge overall winners of the biennial tournament.
NLNG secured the top position on the medal table with a total of 52 medals, comprising 20 gold, 16 silver and 16 bronze, narrowly edging out NNPC, who finished second with 49 medals — 14 gold, 15 silver and 20 bronze.
The closely contested competition saw several industry players mount impressive challenges, but NNPC’s medal haul fell just short of what was needed to defend the title they won in the previous edition.
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) finished third with 18 medals, including five gold and eight silver, while TotalEnergies claimed fourth place with 15 medals made up of five gold and 10 bronze.
Other strong contenders included Renaissance, Oando, Seplat Energy, Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and ND Western, all of whom secured places in the top 10.
Chevron, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), ExxonMobil, Shell and Aradel rounded out the standings from 11th to 15th position.
Held from February 8 to 14, 2026, the 20th edition of NOGIG brought together key stakeholders across Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, reinforcing unity, teamwork and healthy competition. The event also marked a significant milestone, celebrating four decades of fostering collaboration and strengthening relationships among companies through sports.
