The President of the North Central Integrity Forum, Joseph Maiwada, has strongly condemned the recent allegations leveled against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, by the North Central APC Forum.
In a bold response, Maiwada described the Forum’s claims as baseless and divisive, emphasizing that such rhetoric undermines national unity and the collective progress of the North-Central geopolitical zone.
Speaking to journalists Yesterday, Thursday 21 November, 2024, in Lafia, the President expressed dismay over what he termed an “orchestrated attack” on Senator Akume, a seasoned statesman whose contributions to the region and the country at large remain undeniable.
According to him, the accusations of lopsided appointments by the SGF are not only unfounded but also politically motivated to create unnecessary tension.
“The recent outburst by the North Central APC Forum against Senator George Akume is a regrettable attempt to misrepresent facts and tarnish the image of a man who has dedicated his life to serving Nigeria and ensuring inclusivity in governance,” Maiwada stated.
The North Central Integrity Forum highlighted the SGF’s commendable efforts to foster national cohesion through his office, pointing out that appointments under his leadership are guided by competence, merit, and the overarching goal of nation-building.
Maiwada further stressed that the Forum’s threat to mobilize protests and agitations against the SGF is counterproductive and a disservice to the region.
“Rather than making baseless claims, the North Central APC Forum should focus on fostering collaboration and unity, which are critical for the development of the North-Central region and Nigeria as a whole.
Senator Akume’s commitment to fairness and equity cannot be questioned by those driven by narrow political interests,” he added.
He called on stakeholders across the North-Central zone to reject attempts to sow discord within the region, urging them to rally behind Senator Akume and support his efforts in advancing the interests of the zone.
He also appealed to political actors to prioritize dialogue and constructive engagement over public statements that could polarize the region.
“The North Central Integrity Forum stands firmly with Senator Akume. We believe that his leadership will continue to benefit the North-Central zone and Nigeria at large. We urge the Forum and other stakeholders to work towards unity rather than division,” Maiwada concluded.
