The Local Organising Committee of the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba, Delta says it is addressing the initial logistics problems faced by some of the contingents.
Chris Nnamdi, Secretary of the LOC said this in an interview with the media on Friday.
Some state teams at the festival had complained of poor living conditions in the camps, poor transport system among others.
Nnamdi said that the logistics was improving as the festival progressed.
He said vehicles had been designated to convey teams around the triangular locations of Asaba, Ogwashi-Ukwu and Isele-Ukwu.
He, however said it was unrealistic for visiting state to rely wholly on the transport arrangements provided by the LOC for movement of their teams.
“You cannot rely entirely on the host state for transportation of your state teams, we have provided vehicles to convey teams to venues but that is to supplement what the states came with.
“We have transport officers at the various camps, they are to assist movement of athletes within Asaba, Ogwashi-Ukwu and Isele-Ukwu where they have camps and venues,” he said.
He said arrangements had been made to provide electricity and water to improve conditions at the games villages.
“It is expected that when you leave your comfort zone, you will encounter initial discomfort but efforts are being made to improve the situation.
“Part of the problem is that the teams did not send an advance team that should have come and inspect the venues assigned to them.
“Imagine that two days after the opening ceremony, teams were still coming to ask for where their accommodation is,” he said.
St. Patrick’s College Games Village is still in darkness four days after the arrival of the teams staying there.
