Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has dedicated his recognition as one of LEADERSHIP Newspaper’s 2025 Governors of the Year to the people of Delta State, describing the honour as a national endorsement of his administration’s development-focused MORE Agenda.

Governor Oborevwori, who was represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, at the 18th LEADERSHIP Conference and Awards held on Wednesday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, expressed appreciation to the management of LEADERSHIP Newspaper for what he described as its objective assessment and consistent support of his administration.

He noted that the award reflects the significant progress made by his government in key sectors, including infrastructure renewal, human capital development, healthcare expansion and education since assuming office.

The governor highlighted the construction and rehabilitation of several roads and bridges across the state, noting that the projects were designed to improve connectivity, open up rural communities and stimulate economic activities.
Oborevwori also emphasized Delta State’s distinction as the only state in Nigeria with four state-owned universities, describing the achievement as part of a deliberate effort to strengthen education and build a knowledge-driven economy for future generations.

“This recognition affirms that our efforts are being acknowledged across the nation. It is both an honour and a motivation for us to intensify our commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy to our people,” he said.

He thanked God for the recognition and commended LEADERSHIP Newspaper for maintaining what he described as a credible award process anchored on critical evaluation and national impact.

Oborevwori was honoured alongside five other governors—Hope Uzodimma of Imo, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara and Uba Sani of Kaduna—for their contributions to leadership, infrastructure development, fiscal discipline and improved security in their respective states.

The event attracted prominent dignitaries, including the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; senior government officials; members of the diplomatic corps; and elder statesmen. The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dr. Amina Mohammed, delivered the keynote address.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, Oborevwori pledged to sustain ongoing reforms and accelerate development efforts across Delta State in line with the MORE Agenda.
