Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, Thursday, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was fulfilling his electoral promise of bringing meaningful development to citizens of the state.

The Commissioner disclosed this during his inspection of 1.192km internal roads comprising Benjamin Osaragbaje, Orhorhor Road, Orhorhor link road and Chechester Road in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area.

Izeze said the construction of the roads was a fulfillment of the meaningful development plank of the MORE Agenda that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori promised Deltans.

According to him, “Governor Oborevwori promised that he would be a governor for all.

“True to his words, he had visited this road during the Christmas holidays in 2023 and saw its sorry state. Thereafter, he informed us of his intention to rehabilitate the entire stretch.

“As at today, the drains have been completed, the binder and the friction course are being applied, the roads, as they are, just require desilting of the drains and then the road marking for commissioning.

“This is another evidence of a promise kept; he has kept the promise he made to the people of this neighbourhood when he visited in December, 2023.

“On behalf of the people of Sapele and all residents within this area, I thank Governor Oborevwori for keeping his promise to them, while also thanking the residents of this environment for giving our engineers and the contractor a peaceful work environment throughout the duration of this project.

“It is our hope that now that they have drains that are channelled to discharge into the river, they will do their own part by ensuring that these drains are maintained.

“They should ensure the drains remain clean so that they can serve the purpose for which they were intended and not to become a mosquito pond because the residents dump all their refuse into the drains”.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done, adding that; “I can tell, having gone around with Engineers from our Departments of the Ministry of Works, that, indeed, it meets the requirements of the Bill of Engineering Measurements and Evaluation and the Bill of Quantities.”

A resident of the area, Chief Apolo Osaragbaje, said the road had been impassable, especially during the rainy season, due to flooding and thanked Governor Oborevwori for approving the construction of the internal roads.

His words, “I must thank Governor Sheriff Oborevwori a ‘talk and do’ Governor for approving the construction of the roads when he visited me.

“I made the request to him after a few weeks (of him being in office) and was not even expecting a reply because he has several requests and demands but suddenly I found an expatriate contractor, Niger Cat, and, to that extent, I will name Governor Oborevwori ‘a talk and do’ Governor.

“The Governor has done a great job which is comparable to what Ogbemudia did around Sapele in 1972 and I appreciate the contractor he brought; they did a fine job and finished the job they were told to do.

“I am quite happy, on behalf of the neighbourhood; the road spans not just my road where I live, but there are adjoining roads to make it more motorable and more beautiful. I express my appreciation and my thanks to him immensely on behalf of the community.

“Today, Governor Oborevwori has done a good job not only in Sapele; I read in the newspapers the whole three senatorial districts of Delta state are all are being carried along and he has improved our living condition”.
