The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has condemned the assault of one of its patrol team leaders, as a court ordered a two-week remand for the offender, Abdulkadri Adamu, following the incident in Karu, Abuja.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the attack as unacceptable and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting its personnel from harm while carrying out lawful duties.

The incident occurred on Thursday, April 16, 2026, during a routine morning patrol at ECWA Junction in Karu, when the offender, driving an overloaded Nissan Almera with registration number YAB 796 EQ, allegedly resisted arrest and attacked the FRSC officer.

According to reports, the driver refused to comply with traffic directives and violently confronted the patrol team leader, lifting and throwing him to the ground. The officer sustained serious injuries, including suspected fractures.

He was immediately rushed to a medical facility in Karu, where he received emergency treatment. Authorities confirmed that the officer has regained consciousness and is undergoing further medical evaluation.

The suspect was apprehended with the help of members of the public and handed over to the police. He was subsequently arraigned in court, where he did not contest the charges. The presiding judge found him guilty and ordered a two-week remand, set to end on April 23, 2026.

Reacting to the development, Mohammed expressed concern over what he described as a growing trend of attacks on FRSC personnel during operations. He stressed that such acts would not be tolerated and would attract the full weight of the law.

He also urged motorists to respect traffic authorities and cooperate with enforcement officers, noting that FRSC operatives are on the roads to save lives and ensure safety.

The Corps Marshal reiterated that the agency remains resolute in safeguarding its officers and maintaining discipline on Nigeria’s highways, warning that any form of obstruction, assault, or violence against its personnel would be dealt with decisively.
