The people of Oganenigu in Dekina local government area of Kogi State have expressed joy and gratitude to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, for breaking a 23-year jinx by visiting their community for a campaign rally ahead of the Kogi State governorship election slated for November 11, 2023.
The community in a statement released on Monday’s night, noted that no frontline governorship candidate has ever visited their community for a campaign since the return of democracy to Nigeria in 1999.
SDP candidate Murtala Ajaka and his campaign team were in Oganenigu on Monday amid excitement to solicit for their votes and support with a promise to construct the road leading to the community and expand the economic opportunities in the area if voted into power.
They described Ajaka’s visit as unprecedented and a sign of his respect for the people of Oganenigu and their community.
“We are grateful to Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka for breaking this 23-year jinx and visiting our community for a campaign rally,” the statement said. “Despite the difficult terrain, deplorable access road, and insecurity that has plagued our community, Ajaka made it to our community with 50 cars. This is a sign of his commitment to our community and our people.”
The Oganenigu People also expressed their confidence in Ajaka’s ability to turnaround the fortune of their community, Igala Land, and the entire Kogi State if elected governor.
“We are confident that if elected governor, Murtala Ajaka will construct the road leading to our community, expand economic opportunities in the area, and empower our people,” the statement said. “We restate our full support for his aspiration to become governor of Kogi State.
