Recently, the Domestic Refinery owners Association of Nigeria met with the Nigerian Federal Government where they made presentation on how they intend help reduce the effect of the removal of the oil subsidy on Nigerians.
The meeting was presided by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator It Enang at his office in Abuja.
The body applauded President Muhmmadu Buhari for the removal of the oil subsidy but noted that it can only be effective if the domestic Refinery producers are integrated into the production process.
In his speech, the National Chairman, Godwin Sunday said, “Sir, some time ago, we voluntarily came out of our respective creeks and approach the Federal Government on our readiness to be integrated in order to add value to the petroleum sector of the Nation’s economy, technologically, an action which was applauded by the PTDF and GMD of NNPC Dr. Kyari. During our engagement, he commended such decision as never happened in the history of Nigeria and assured that NNPC and the Federal Government will garante us for the needed facility to establish this project.
Speaking further, “Our humble appeal is based on those promises and that of the Federal Government through the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo during the stakeholder’s meeting in Niger Delta. Secondly, considering the devastating effect on our environment which obviously is leading to the environmental pollution, degradation and even a negative effect of our ecosystem. We also, as people have unanimously agreed that we cannot continue to steal what we have. To deepen this commitment, we have acquired three speed boats with 75 horse power engine rachto enable us penetrate the creeks to carryout sensitization exercise TAGGED: Operation stop illegal oil bunkering in Nigeria,”
Still speaking, he said, “As a matter of urgency, we hereby plead with the Federal Government, through the office of SSA to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Petrolium, NNPC, NDDC, PTDF, NEITTI, NOSDRA and other Agencies of government:
.That a presidential committee be set up to look into the activities and the demands of the Artisanal Oil refiners in the Niger Delta Region.
.That approval be given for the establishment of Modula refineries of 10 Units of One thousand Barrels daily per Niger Delta states.
.That the Federal Government should provide gauratee for the refiners to the tone of fifteen Million Dollars ($15) per refinery.
That flag off of excises for the sensitization be implemented without delay.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Adviser to the President, Ita Enang was full of praise for the presentation of the domestic refinery owners promising to take their position to the higher authorities
“Let me say that I will take this message back to the higher authorities, I will express your version and let me say that we are all in this together . The level of organization that you have to make this technical presentation you have shown, the skills you have shown, and the fact that all the refineries that you use are fabricated by you, welded by you and your team, you have created labour and employment for the masses. And you have all come out by your own and at your own cost, paid your hotel, it shows that you are able to sustain yourself adequately and you love the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
