The 2019 Okpekpe 10km race may have come and gone with the East Africans as usual dominating and carting away the major trophies, Deborah Pam who emerged first among the Nigerian women runners noted that there is no big deal about the East Africans, explaining that the reason beating them has been difficult is because of organization.
Speaking with www.theajsanews.com, Deborah whose husband, also came first in the Nigerian men category maintained that the Federation and the organizers of the marathon events in Nigeria have not been fair with them in several areas.
She explained that information about the dates for some of the events are not relayed to them on time, emphasizing that under same condition they have what it takes to catch up with the East Africans.
“We can catch up with them if we train hard, and if we get very good sponsor and with a good facilities to train with and keep fit. Again, we are not coordinated. They hardly give to us adequate information of the calendar of the competitions, sometimes they inform us about some competitions two or three weeks to the time which makes it not enough time for us to train and stay fit for the event, though we usually train all the time. But if they will inform us months before a competition we would then be able to train enough well ahead of the time,” she said.
Speaking specifically about the Okpekpe terrain and weather against the backdrop of the complain from several Athletes, the Jos based Debora said, “To me the weather was okay, it was not too hot and it was conducive for me,”
