The Nigerian independence day, October 1st can be referred to as one of the most sacred days in the country as it brings forth tales of emancipation from the colonial masters in 1960.

While other Nigerians are planning to celebrate this day and pray for the continuous growth of the nation, the outlawed group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB have set out to put the southeast into another round of chaos with a fresh sit-at-home order.

The group had announced a total shutdown of the southeast states, they also announced that all Nigerian flags must be brought down in the region.

Such impetus!

This order will only make one revelation in the region and that is, to show how much control the governors of the region have over the states and the level of their readiness for leadership if the Presidency is zoned to the region.

Recall the outlawed group has for some time, held the region under lockdown as it enforced a sit-at-home some weeks ago stopping traders and school children from participating in their daily activities.

Although some state governors like Hope Uzodinma of Imo and Willie Obiano of Anambra state had exerted their executive powers and brought the state back to life, some states were yet to bring the condition under control.

Now the main attack is not on the southeast residents only but on the collective efforts of the southeast elders aiming to get the presidency zoned to the region.

Recall the governors of southern extraction, all 17 of them had insisted that power must rotate back to the region.

Out of all the regions in the south, the south-east is yet to get a shot at the presidency and this should be their time to aggressively seek this power rotation but the incessant disturbances and unnecessary activities of this outlawed group have continued to be a pain in the neck for the region.

While not advocating for a full-scale military attack, it is necessary that the governors of this region exert their powers in every reasonable way to mend this rift.

It should be known that the reaction and compliance level of the region to this needless order will go a long way to show how prepared the region is as they demand for the presidency.

This is not the time to overlook this order as one of those small-time talk as the group has done it before.

It will be a big shame that the Governors will not be able to take the usual October 1st salute because of a mere threat by an outlawed group.

Governors Hope Uzodinma of Imo state, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Willie Obiano of Anambra state should all sit up and prevent another round of chaos in the region and also, protect the integrity of the southeast.
