Organizer of Ambode valedictory football game says thank you to ‘ALL’

Organisers of ‘Match for Ambode’ has expressed profound gratitude to the outgoing Governor of Lagos Akinwunmi Ambode for his laudable contributions to the development of sports in Lagos since he took up office in 2015 which was the major reason for staging the football match.

The Convener and Cordinator of ‘Match for Ambode’ Waidi Akanni also hailed the contributions of Africa and Nigerian legends who fully participated in the match held at the Agege Stadium on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

It was a well deserved honour accorded our sports loving governor for his immense contributions to sports in general and football in particular in Lagos State. Our amiable governor has through his involvment in the development of sports in the state empowered thousands of youths in the state. We say a very big thank you to our amiable and sports loving governor and his cabinet members too.

“I on behalf of the organisers will forever be grateful to our visitors, the Africa legends and their Nigerian counterparts that played the mach and made the football match something to be remembered for a very long time to come. I say a big thank you to them too and all other people that worked behind the scene to make the game a highly successful one.

“I will not forget in a hurry Lagos fans who came to watch the match in large numbers at the Agege Stadium. I say a big thank you to them too. We also appreciate the huge contributions of the media that gave unprecedented publicity to ‘Match for Ambode’ which contributed to its success”,Akanni disclosed.

The game had the biggest Nigerian stars coached by Olympic gold medal-winning coach, Bonfere Joe.

The Nigerian legend team had; Jay Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Samson Siasia, Daniel Amokachi, Augustine Eguavoen, Mutiu Adepoju,  Emmanuel Amunike, Taribo West, Uche Okechukwu, Garba Lawal,  Peter Rufai and Ike Shorunmu.

Others include Finidi George, Victor Ikpeba, Obafemi Martins, Tijani Babangida, Julius Aghahowa and Sam Sodje, while Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shuaibu and Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, featured in the game.

Meanwhile, The African legend team, coached by former U-17 Golden Eaglets coach, Fanny Amun had the likes of El Hadji Diouf, Diomansy Kamara, Titi Kamara, Christian Karembeu, Stephen Appiah, Didier Zokora, Lomana Lua Lua, Khalilou Fadiga and Seydou Keita.
