Owolabi leads football Icons to celebrate MHSO at 60

1980 AFCON winner, Dr. Felix Owolabi, will lead other football icons to the ancient town of Owo to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Methodist High School.

Others football icons that will grace the auspicious occasion include the highly rated Zion Ogunfeyintimi, former Zamalek and Nigeria forward Akinkunmi Akinsehinde and former Commissioner of Sports in Ondo state, Ola Mafo to mentioned just a few.

Other football stakeholders that will storm Owo include the irrepressible Ben Memutilewon, Chimaobi Uchendu of Guardian newspapers, the indefatigable Abdulgafar Oladimeji jetting in from Kano.

The school known as MHSO, kick started the 60th anniversary since December with special Christmas carol on Dec.15th 2024.

According to Chief Kasali Obanyen (class of 76) the old students have lined up series of events designed to honour MHSO legacy, reconnect old students, and inspire the next generation of students under the able leadership of National president, Akinola Osuporu.

And with the Surveyor Ajayi Thomas leading the charge as chairman planning committee of METHSOOSA, which has promised to make the celebration a historic and unforgettable occasion and finalize arrangements to bring eminent bigwigs to MHSO to be part of the celebration.

“It’s gonna be a top notch celebration. Everything is on course. It will be an unforgettable experience and talk of the town for a long time” Obanoyen told our correspondent on phone.

The anniversary proper will start on Monday, March 10th with Special prayer to be led by the Lord Bishop of Methodist Church, Bishop W.A Egbetakin .On the same day there will be Procession to Olowo Palace By the Old Students, students and staff.

On Tuesday March 11th there will be Lectures on Life and Economic Driving Issues while on Wednesday the Inter House Sports Competition will hold at MHSO school field. The quiz competition will hold on Thursday in the School Auditorium.

Day 5 of the anniversary –Friday, March 14th –there will be commissioning of projects by 10am while there will be football match by 4pm and unveiling of the trophies.

On Saturday, there will be launching of the anniversary magazine by 10am and gala night/honour rolls call at 2pm.

Curtains will fall on the 60th anniversary with a thanksgiving service at Methodist Church, Owo on Sunday March 16th
