President of Para-Soccer Federation of Nigeria (PFN), Misbahu Lawan Didi has identified lack of government support as the main reason the Nations sports is not growing as it should.

Speaking with www.theajasanews.com, Didi therefore called on the federal government and stakeholders on the need to develop sports in Nigeria in other to meet international best practices.

“In as much, we respect the international rule on anti-doping we should respect the international standards on developing and promoting sports in Nigeria. In world competitions hardily will you see Nigeria making up the top five because we are lagging behind in term of sports development.”

“If we can have a seminar on sports development with all the federation and sports ministry to brainstorm and bring up recommendations I believe we cannot reposition Nigeria sports in the right direction”.

“Many sports federation are not performing in because of the lack of government encouragement and support from corporate organizations. Government need to help the sports federation by reducing the tax of the corporate organizations so that they can further invest in the sporting sector” he noted.

PFN boss also pleaded for the inclusion of all the sports at the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) billed for Edo state in 2020.

“For the next national sports festival, about 14 sports are tagged optional whereby only 3 will be selected to feature at the games which doesn’t encourage the development of those federations”

“The governments should ensure that they encourage sports generally as one in the country because all federation want to participate at the national sports festival.”

As the president of para soccer over 30,000 athletes have passed under our federation and as at now we don’t know our fate if Edo state will decide to host us or not’’ he concluded.
