Manchester United Playmaker, Paul Pogba has set a new English Premier League record by providing the on Sunday afternoon against Southampton.
Pogba set up Mason Greenwood in the 55th minutes to bring Manchester United to parity as they were trailing at St Mary after conceding through Che Adam’s shot in the first half.
The assists took Pogba’s effort to five after two opening games of the season.
According to OptaJoe who posted on Twitter via (@OptaJoe) on August 22, 2021, Pogba becomes the first player in Premier League history to provide five assists after his team’s first two games of a single season.
The World Cup winner had provided four assists in the 5-1 demolition of Leeds United in the opening day match.
The French International is enjoying one of his best starts to a new since he joined Manchester United four seasons ago from the then Italian Serie A Champion, Juventus FC.
Meanwhile, the reds endure a first half to forget as the majority of their players failed to lift their game and match the agility and physicality approach by Southhampton.
Fred, Bruno Fernades and Martial were below par as Manchester United stumbled to a 1-1 draw.
The team was largely a shadow of their blistering form of last week when Leeds were dismantled.
The attack was a bit alive when Jadon Sancho came in for Martial in the second half but it wasn’t enough to change the scoreline.
The results put the Red Devils on 4 points behind Liverpool FC, a team with a maximum of six points from their first two games.
It brings to the fore, that Manchester United still need to sign a proven striker before the close of the summer transfer window at the end of the month.
