The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced his decision to pull out of all agreements previously reached within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In a statement released on May 25, 2025, Wike cited widespread dishonesty and lack of trust among key stakeholders as the reason for his decision.
Wike expressed disappointment with the actions of some party members, including Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, whom he accused of reneging on agreements. He specifically mentioned that Makinde had orchestrated the summoning of a meeting of South-East leaders to push for the adoption of Ude Okoye as National Secretary, despite an earlier agreement to recognize Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary.
The FCT Minister also alleged that Makinde had organized people in the National Secretariat to insist that the Deputy National Secretary should act as National Secretary, in violation of the agreement. Wike condemned these actions as a clear breach of trust and a recipe for chaos within the party.
Wike, who has been a stalwart of the PDP since 1998, expressed pain and disappointment that despite his significant contributions to the party’s survival and success, some party members have chosen to play games to the detriment of the party. He vowed to fight on until justice is attained.
The development is likely to escalate the ongoing crisis within the PDP, with Wike’s statement sending shockwaves through the party’s leadership. The PDP has been grappling with internal conflicts and power struggles, and Wike’s decision is seen as a significant blow to the party’s efforts to stabilize and move forward.
