People With Disabilities (PWD) have declared their unflinching support towards the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming elections holding next month.
Addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Disability Matters, Mr. Samuel Ankeli, said no President would fight the cause of the vulnerable the way Buhari has done within the last three years of his administration, and there was need for him to run another term of four years in office to enable him complete the programmes he has promised to put in place for PWDs.
According to Ankeli, such projects and programmes includes the establishment of a national commission for disability, a ministry to address the needs of the vulnerable and disabled, the reservation of 10 percent employment slot for people with disabilities in all establishments in the country, all aimed at changing the negative attitude of the masses towards this unique set of persons.
He noted that Buhari has promised to ensure all public buildings and roads would be made accessible for people with disabilities in the next dispensation, and was also working to improve education scholarship locally and internationally for PWD.
Furthermore, Ankeli maintained that contrary to the perception of the public which makes them view people with disabilities as weak, mourning or dying persons, they were actively on the field strategizing on how best to ensure President Muhammadu Buhari wins at next month’s presidential poll.
“We are committed to this cause, we shall not fail him we shall not fail ourselves. Because of Buhari for the first time we have a voice in government, he has shown that he is a worthy leader who is stable, faithful, compassionate and reliable.
“We are gifted on persuasion and so we are sure we are going to go down to the grassroots to canvass for the election of Muhammadu Buhari in February 2019 elections. We are so confident, our population is enormous, the general population of people with disabilities is 25 million and those to vote we are going to deliver president Muhammadu Buhari in the next election.
“Wherever you are come out and vote, it is a time for us to show that we are Nigerians who are active, we want to take out destinies in our hands we want to be part of the decision making process but that can only be possible when you and I go out and vote and our vote is counted. We are doing this based on the achievements of the president, we have fully benefitted and more will be done for us in the next four years,” he said.
