Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has said that the newly commissioned Nigeria Police Mobile Force Training College, Ende, in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, will enhance modern trends of combating insecurity in the country.
Engineer Sule stated this during the commissioning ceremony of the PMF Training College, at Ende Hills, on Wednesday.
The Governor said the college will also provide the needed platform for the appraisal of the security situation of the country and to proffer workable solutions that will assist in entrenching a high-tech security that will promote sustainable peace.
According to Engineer Sule, even though the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, has significantly degraded activities of Boko Haram, kidnapping, banditry, among others, the resurgence of criminal elements calls for re-strategizing towards combating the security challenges across the country.
While noting that Nasarawa State has its own share of security challenges namely, conflicts between herdsmen and farmers, kidnapping, rape, as well as communal conflicts, the Governor however commended the Federal Government for its continued support in the fight against insecurity, particularly in siting PMF bases in Akwanga, Lafia and Toto.
He commended President Buhari and the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed A. Adamu, for graciously approving the siting of the PMF Training College in Nasarawa State and conceiving the idea of establishing the college respectively.
Earlier, in his remarks, IGP Mohammed A. Adamu, said the training college represents a critical national security asset which was established as part of the strategic approaches of the Nigeria Police, in strengthening the capacity of the special and tactical operations arms of the force, in dealing with current and emerging threats in the country, on a sustainable basis.
President Muhammdu Buhari, on his part, pointed out that the conceptualization and timely completion of the training facility, geared towards enhancing operational capacity of the Nigeria Police special forces, in dealing with current threats of insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, etc, is in line with the policy strides of his administration, to modernize the country’s security framework in line with international best practice.
Represented at the event by the Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, the President disclosed that additional PMF training facilities will be established in other geopolitical zones of the country to strengthen the operational capacity of the mobile police being the strike force of the Nigeria police.
He joined the Governor of Nasarawa State to commend the IGP and the police management team, for their commitment to improve the Nigeria police. Dignitaries that witnessed the event include, State Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, former governors Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura, Senate Committee Chairman on Police Affairs, Senator Godiya Akwashiki, Halliru Dauda Jika, Chairman House Committee on Police Affairs, Hon. Bello Usman Kumo and Hon. Abdulmumini Mohammed Ari.
Others are, Speaker Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Suleiman Umaru Dikko, Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Barrister Muhammad Ubandoma Aliyu and the Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Bage (rtd).
