President Tinubu Extends Tenure of Customs Comptroller-General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for one year. The extension, which takes effect from August 31, 2025, was approved by the President to enable Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives.

According to a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), the extension is aimed at ensuring the successful implementation of key projects, including the modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

President Tinubu has expressed confidence that the extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security. The President also recognized Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service.

The extension is seen as a vote of confidence in Mr. Adeniyi’s leadership and a demonstration of the President’s commitment to supporting key institutions in the country. With this extension, Mr. Adeniyi will continue to drive reforms and initiatives that will enhance the performance of the Nigeria Customs Service.
