Two Real Madrid players are one yellow card away from being suspended for one game in the Champions League. Those players which will be discussed below will have to avoid getting a yellow card when they play against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.
Here is why they will be suspended if they get a yellow card
The men’s Champions League yellow-card accumulation rules have it that any player who gets a total of three yellow cards in different matches before the quarter-final is banned for the next game.
Note that the cards are wiped off at the start of the quarter-final to ensure no player will miss the final due to the yellow-card accumulation rules.
Here are the two players that could be suspended
1) Casemiro
The Brazilian defensive midfielder has accumulated two yellow cards which he got in the first leg against FC Sheriff and in the second leg against Shakhtar Donetsk. It will be a big blow for the Los Blancos if he is not available for the second leg as he is a key member of the squad under club manager Carlo Ancelotti. This is proved by the fact that he played in all 6 group matches this season.
2) Ferland Mendy
The French left-back is the only other player that can miss the second leg against PSG as he too has accumulated two yellow cards. He got them in the second-leg matches against Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Sheriff. So far, he has made four appearances in the competition this season.
Why PSG players are not on the list
The reason there are no PSG players on this list is that none of them has accumulated up to two yellow cards. That means none of them will miss both legs against Real Madrid for reasons related to yellow cards. They can only be suspended if they get a Red card in the first leg.
