It is possible for fish to fall from the sky, especially during a storm. These types of incidents are not supernatural, there is a scientific explanation for it. To explain the reason behind these cases, we need to know what a Tornado and a tornadic waterspout are.
What do Tornado and tornadic waterspout mean?
A tornado is described as a violently rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the Earth and a cumulonimbus cloud or, in rare cases, the base of a cumulus cloud. This tornado usually occur on land. However, a tornadic waterspout is a type of tornado that form over water, or move from land to water. They have the same characteristics as a land tornado.
What this simply means is that when a tornado arises on land, it is usually described as tornado, but when such tornado moves from land to water or arises from the surface of a water body, it is known as a tornadic waterspout.
How tornadic waterspout makes fish to fall from the sky.
When a tornadic waterspout occurs, it usually picks up very light animals, most especially fishes from the sea. It lifts them high into the cloud and continues to move them along its path until it vanishes. Interestingly, as the tornadic waterspout vanishes, the fishes lifted into the sky will start falling back to the surface of the Earth.
Since a tornadic waterspout does not stay in one location, it is possible that these fishes may fall in residential areas away from the water source they were picked up from.
In summary, fish are picked up by a strong tornadic waterspout, taken to other locations up in the sky and dumped when the waterspout settles down.
