Information reaching www.theajasanews.com[1] has it that the Management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) decided to suspend the use of the National Identification Number, NIN for registration for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME because it was alleged that staffs of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC were exploiting students who had besieged their office to obtain it.
It was said that the JAMB Management were forced to take the action after carrying out investigation following the outcry by the students complaining about the actions of the staffs of the NIMC who had created unnecessary bottleneck as a way to exploiting the desperate students.
The decision to suspend its use was announced by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede in a press conference in Abuja on Saturday.
The JAMB Registrar said candidates can now go
ahead to register for 2020 UTME while the use of NIN takes effect next year.
It can be recalled that NIMC, apparently disturbed
by the hardship the students were going had on Friday on its Twitter handle
declared Saturday (today) solely for the registration of JAMB candidates for
NIN.
The announcement made on NIMC Twitter handle was
ongoing in Abuja, Kano and Lagos before the latest development.
