Following the declaration of the League Management Company, (LMC) as an illegal entity and the setting up of an Interim Management Committee, (IMC) to manage the league, findings has it that some officials of the disbanded League Management Company had allegedly masterminded the sale of the only building that housed the old NPFL secretariat located at Garki 2, Abuja.
Not only was the building sold, www.theajasanews.com also discovered that the coaster busses parked at the premises, the Mikano generators, all the ACs in the building and the furnitures were all allegedly removed and sold.
According to a football personality who for obvious reasons did not want his name on print revealed how these persons facilitated the sale of the only facility that was bequeathed to the Nigeria league by previous administrators of the league.
He maintained that the Federal Government must go beyond declaring the LMC as illegal, but must also go ahead to probe their activities, especially as it pertain to the selling of the NPFL properties.
“It is very unfortunate that these people would be so callous to have sold off the only legacy of the past administrators of the Nigeria league.
“The government must probe these dastard acts and bring whoever did that to explain his or her reason for selling the property of the league body. It must not end in declaring the body illegal but their role in the sale of the building must be investigated. If for anything, now that there is going to be a new body to run the league they should have gone back to that building,” he said.
You may want to recall that on the creation of the League Management Company, the new managers abandoned the old NPFL secretariat, took some of their staff with them, and rented a new apartment as their own secretariat. The left over Staffs were still reporting at the old secretariat.
Also, during the brief reign of the then authentic President of the Nigeria Football Federation as declared by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Chris Giwa, he made attempt to bring back life to the old NPFL secretariat. He worked towards bringing back the authentic league managers to manage their league by appointing a new secretary to the League in the person of Kasali Obanoye.
He replaced the old furnitures in the building with brand new once.. renovation work were carried out in the building which by then had suffered neglect. He gave the place a face-lift and did much more, just to sustain the legacies of the past administrators, and allow the club owners to run their league before he was unceremoniously booted out of office. The same club owners he fought for joined forces with the LMC to pull him down. The rest is now history..
