The President of the Road Safety Officers Wives Association (ROSOWA), Hajiya Dr. Nafisa Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the tragic death of six of its members in a recent road traffic crash.

She also commiserated with the families of two other victims who lost their lives in the crash involving world-renowned boxing icon, Anthony Joshua.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dr. Nafisa described the incident as painful and heartbreaking, noting that her thoughts and prayers are with the NUJ, the bereaved families, and all those affected by the tragedy.

At the same time, the ROSOWA President commended personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for their swift, professional and courageous response at the crash scene, particularly in the prompt rescue of Anthony Joshua and effective management of the incident.

According to her, the immediate deployment and coordinated rescue operations carried out by FRSC personnel demonstrated a high level of preparedness, discipline and unwavering commitment to saving lives.

Dr. Nafisa further expressed delight at the overwhelming positive feedback from members of the public, both within Nigeria and internationally, describing the reactions as a clear endorsement of the professionalism, responsiveness and life-saving capacity of the FRSC.

She noted that the conduct of officers at the scene ensured proper traffic control, prevented secondary crashes and facilitated prompt medical attention where necessary.

Emphasising the often-overlooked sacrifices made by road safety personnel, Dr. Nafisa said the risks and demands of the job are shared by their families, assuring officers of ROSOWA’s continued support and solidarity.

She also urged motorists to strictly obey traffic regulations, especially speed limits, stressing that responsible driving remains critical to reducing avoidable road crashes and fatalities.

While once again commiserating with the families of the deceased victims, the ROSOWA President wished Anthony Joshua a speedy and full recovery.

The statement was signed by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer of the FRSC, Olusegun Ogungbemide, mni, FISPON, anipr, on December 30, 2025.
