Sanusi Nasiru Mahmud has been elected the new Chairman of Taraba state in an election conducted on Wednesday in Jalingo, Capital of Taraba state.
He emerged with a vote of 12 to defeat the incumbent, Timothy Pembi who scored no vote at all.
Though, Timothy Pembi had stayed away from the election and gone ahead to a different venue to conduct another election with only 7 out of the 19 delegates, in connivance with the NFF observer, Baba Gana.
Timothy who had seen the hand writing on the wall that majority of delegates were against him and the chances of returning will be difficult took the election to his local government, but following petition from the opponents complaining about the security of the area, the police advised Timothy to bring the election to Jaligo declaring that they would not be able to guarantee the security of delegates to the venue.
The venue was then changed to Jalingo but surprisingly, Timothy and his group, with the NFF observer refused to turn up for the election deciding otherwise to hold a separate election at a different venue.
Meanwhile, majority of the football stake holders in Taraba; players Union, Referees council, match commissioner council, journalist and majority of the delegates were on ground at the designated venue where the election was finally held.
One of the stakeholder who did not want his name on print but spoke with www.theajasanews.com in confidence expressed disappointment with the NFF board member whom he said came with the mandate of returning Timothy Pembi irrespective of the desire and will of the people.
He argued and maintained that the football stakeholders in Taraba will not allow such in their football as the people should be allowed to freely chose their leader.
“I am totally disappointed with the NFF observer that came to supervise the election. He is a total disappointment and we will formerly report him to the authority in Abuja. His duty is to supervise and not to openly assist a particular candidate,’
“We have held our election with all the delegates on ground. He does not have the power to invalidate our election because all who are supposed to be present for the election was on ground here. His job is to supervise and if he chooses not to do his duty, that is his own fault and not ours,” he said.
