Senator Ned Munir Nwoko representing Delta North in Nigeria’s Upper Chambers, the Senate is indeed living no stone unturned in ensuring that people of his Senatorial district feel the impact of his position.
And to achieve this goal the Distinguished Senator has initiated several programs aimed at alleviating the suffering of his people through pushing for projects that would directly impact on their lives.
Highlighting some of these projects while receiving in audience some members of the media who are majorly from the Anioma region of Delta state in his office on Tuesday, he stressed that his greatest concern is to see to how the issue of seasonal farming in the Senatorial district would be a thing of the past. According to him, this could be achieved through the completion of the Ogwashi-Ukwu dam.
Senator Nwoko maintained that when completed the Dam would provide enough water for irrigation for all year round farming activities thereby boosting food security in the communities in and around Anioma and even enough for export. He explained that he had met and had discussion with relevant stakeholders and decision makers with a view to providing the funds needed to complete it.
The Distinguish Senator also highlighted his other programs which is aimed at making life meaningful for the communities in his Senatorial district .
He listed some of them as; Stepping down the power plant in Ndokwa East which he stresses is capable of providing a 24/7 power supply to the communities, ensuring the construction of the coastal roads and the total completion of the second Niger Bridge.
He also stressed that he is moving for the decentralization of the Nigeria Defence Academy just as it was done with the Nigeria law school, and setting up one branch at least in Kwale, Delta state.
Apart from his role towards the development of his constituency, Barrister Ned Munir Nwoko has also been playing a significant role in the policy formulation in the Upper Chamber. His visibility and doggedness is reflected in the countless motions and bills he has sponsored . This earned him membership in 16 ad hoc committees where he is the vice Chairman of two of the committees.
And so far, in just about a year in office he has moved, submitted and proposed about 18 motions and 23 bills. Notable among the motions include; Need to Investigate the incessant and Nefarious Acts of crude oil thefts in the Niger Delta and it’s actors, motion on Need on Fintech companies in Nigeria to ensure stricter security standards amid rabid growth, and many more.
Some of the Bills the Distinguish Senator has sponsored include, a Bill for an Act to make provision for the registration and grant of licence for the use of private security companies in Nigeria, to compliment the activities of the military in the defence of the Nations territory and doe other related purpose, and a Bill for an Act to amend the Nigeria Defence Academy Establishment Act, for the establishment of additional Nigeria Defence Academy in Delta state and other related matter, among several other Bills.
Senator Nwoko said he derived so much joy doing the legislative job stressing that making motions and bills comes natural to him which he explained could be partly because of his profession as a lawyer. In his word, “As a lawmaker, law making is my number one love, and the second is doing projects in my constituency,”
As a way of fostering a more cordial relationship with the Anioma people in Abuja, Barrister Ned Nwoko has instructed his aides to come up with the list of all the indigenes with a view to playing host to them and also holding discussions on how to make Anioma communities a much improved place to reside.
