The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has approved the appointment of two senior officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as Deputy Corps Marshals for the South East and North East geopolitical zones.
The newly appointed officers are Assistant Corps Marshal Hyginus Omeje, who currently heads the Operations Department, and Assistant Corps Marshal Mark Sabiya, the head of the Department of Finance and Accounts at the FRSC National Headquarters. Their elevation to the rank of Deputy Corps Marshal is part of efforts to deepen leadership capacity, enhance operational effectiveness and consolidate road safety management across the country.
According to the SGF, the appointments were informed by the need to deploy experienced, disciplined and performance-driven officers to strategic command positions in order to strengthen national road safety administration and improve service delivery to Nigerians.
Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps described the appointments as timely and well-considered, noting that they reinforce the Corps’ leadership architecture at a critical period in Nigeria’s road safety journey.
He said the two officers have distinguished themselves over decades of service through operational excellence and unwavering commitment to the ideals of the Corps, adding that their new roles would significantly enhance command effectiveness, stakeholder engagement and the execution of targeted road safety interventions nationwide.
The Corps Marshal further urged the newly appointed Deputy Corps Marshals to deploy their wealth of experience in addressing traffic management and road safety challenges, in line with the Corps’ mandate to reduce road crashes and safeguard lives.
The appointments take immediate effect.
