The Director-General of the Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO), Magaji Da’u Aliyu, has called for enhanced capacity building for security personnel at the complex as part of efforts to strengthen community policing and improve safety for staff, researchers and residents around the facility.

Speaking during a visit by officers from the Nigeria Police Force at SHESTCO in Kwali Area Council of Abuja, the Director-General emphasized the need for modern training for security officers to boost their effectiveness in safeguarding lives and property.

Aliyu noted that community policing remains a key strategy for building trust and collaboration between security agencies and host communities.

“SHESTCO recognizes the critical role of security officers in safeguarding its premises and personnel. To enhance their effectiveness, we are requesting capacity building training to equip them with modern security techniques, emergency response skills and intelligence gathering capabilities,” he said.

The DG, a member of the National Institute, stressed that strengthening security within the research complex is crucial to supporting the institution’s mandate of driving innovation and national development.

Responding, the Divisional Police Officer of Kwali Police Station, Paul Pama, commended the SHESTCO management for its commitment to community security.

Pama said the visit was aimed at deepening collaboration between the police and the institution, particularly in supporting the Director-General’s initiatives to improve welfare for security personnel, including the increase in their salaries and allowances.

“We are committed to providing capacity building training for your security officers. We will work together to enhance security measures and ensure a safe environment for staff, researchers and the surrounding community,” he assured.

Meanwhile, the Director-General recently hosted members of the Tinubu Support Group, who described his appointment as well-deserved and expressed confidence in his leadership of the research institution.

During the meeting, Aliyu expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing him as Director-General of SHESTCO, noting that the President’s commitment to science, technology and innovation continues to strengthen national development.

He also commended the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Udeh, for recognizing SHESTCO as a key hub for science, technology and innovation, and praised James Faleke for what he described as exceptional political leadership and dedication to national development.
