The murder of the son of Senator Bala N’Allah by armed bandits in Kaduna State is one of the most trending issues in Nigeria as more reactions trail the sad incident.
Senator Bala represents the people of Kebbi South in the Senate under the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. He is a ranking Senator who has occupied the seat for many years. The Senator’s son known as Abdukkarim Bala Na’Allah was killed by armed bandits in Kaduna State yesterday. Kaduna is ruled by Governor Nasir El-Rufai. As more Nigerians continue to react to that ugly incident, it will be nice to discuss two actions the Senator took few weeks before his son became a victim of insecurity.
First, Senator Bala held a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari over insecurity. Having seen that the insecurity challenge is becoming worse, he had a meeting with Buhari over the issue. His meeting with Buhari was to also tell the President his own suggestions on how to combat the menace. According to a report by Sahara Reporters, Senator Bala told the media that he had a ”frank discussion” with Buhari over the problem of insecurity facing the country.
Second, Senator Bala also revealed the reason for the rising insecurity across Nigeria. He went ahead to give a reason why the insecurity problem is getting worse in the country based on his own experience and findings. According to the Senator, past injustices done to some people in Nigeria is responsible for the rising insecurity. He further revealed that insecurity takes different dimensions in different parts of the country. For instance: it is Boko Haram insurgency in the North East, banditry in North West where Kebbi State and Kaduna State are located. The, the same insecurity takes other forms in the remaining parts of Nigeria.
Senator Bala made efforts as if he saw the danger ahead.
As expected, Senator Bala seemed to have seen the danger ahead of time and he made some efforts to get the government of the day to combat the problem. However, the issue has not been solved. The insecurity challenge is still being witnessed in Nigeria on daily basis. As if he had the feeling that anybody could have been a victim of insecurity, Senator Bala took those steps ahead of time including meeting Buhari. He even made it public that Buhari assured that his government would do everything possible to tackle the challenges posed by the rising insecurity.
Who would have told him that his own son would become a victim? His son is said to be a pilot for the Nigerian authorities. Like Senator Bala, those in positions of authority should speak up and take concrete actions to combat insecurity in Nigeria now. This is because nobody can tell who may be the next victim any moment soon. The bandits and other criminal elements are now becoming very bold and deadly that they seem not to fear anybody. It is better that they are confronted squarely and dealt with as decisively as they deserve than to ignore them and regret it later.
