Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule said he came into the position he occupies today with the hope that God will guide his administration to unite the people of the state.

Engineer Sule stated this while hosting members of the Eggon Nation who were on a courtesy call at the Government House, on Tuesday.

According to the Governor, even though he came into governance in order to do everything possible to create employment, industrialize the state, promote, upgrade education, as well as secure the people of the state by ensuring that they live in peace, his greatest motivation was to unite the state. 

“One of the greatest things that was at the back of our minds, was actually the way of uniting this state so that everyone will see himself as equal to the other.

“We are here together as a people and we come in together as a people and we united together. And every one of us will have the right to seek for any political office, not only in this state,” Engineer Sule stated.

While noting that the courtesy call by the Eggon Nation meant a lot to him, the Governor pointed out that the Eggon people are blessed with intellectuals, movers and shakers of the economy both in Nasarawa and the country at large, educationists as well as prominent persons.

Engineer Sule added that it was not by accident that God blessed the Eggon Nation, stressing that the Eggon people are facing challenges as a test from God to see their resilience. 

“Today, my happiness is that I came in to this position with the hope God will guide us to unite this state. I can see that unity in this hall and I thank God,” he said.

On the upheavals that engulfed the Eggon Nation in the recent past, Engineer Sule attributed it to the handiwork of disgruntled politicians who incited the people to perpetrate violence.

He emphasized that education is extremely important as safeguard against the manipulation of selfish politicians.

“Everyone one of us has the right to seek for political office but it is not going to lead into becoming enemies. The best of friends can seek for the same office but the day that God said it is this one that will get it, then the other friend will give up,” he said.

Engineer Sule used the opportunity to thanked those who together with him contested for the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leading to the 2019 Governorship election, particularly, Alhaji Danladi Evulanza, Dr. Bala Angbazo and Alhaji Dauda Kigbu, who were all part of the delegation.

“Those are the kinds of things that I pray to see and today I am beginning to see them. And we are beginning to be the same people that we used to be. It is only when there is peace, development will come,” the Governor said.

He however called on Eggon elders to prevail in the matter surrounding the delay in the construction of the Nasarawa-Eggon modern market, stressing that until the people agree to support government’s effort, no development will come to the area.

Earlier, in an opening remarks, leader of the delegation, Senator Godiya Akwashiki, said the Eggon Nation were at the Government House to assure the Governor of their unalloyed support, stressing that the visit cut across political divides.

Senator Akwashiki also said the visit was to appreciate the Governor for appointing some of their illustrious sons and daughters into his administration, while equally commending Engineer Sule for his choice of Dr. Emmanuel Akabe as his Deputy.

“Your actions and utterances since assumption of office have given us confidence that indeed we have a leader who confronts issues dispassionately, deliberately and decisively.

“We thank God for your wealth of knowledge, experience and exposure which we believe you are already bringing to bear on the governance of the state, “ he stated.

Senator Akwashiki noted that from his style of leadership, the Eggon Nation saw the Governor as an epitome of integrity, justice, fairness, humility, patience and peace.

As a mark of appreciation, the Eggon Nation conferred on Engineer Sule the traditional title of the Alaku of Eggon Nation.

The delegation from the Eggon Nation comprised the leadership of the Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA), Eggon Council of Elders, royal fathers, ECDA women wing, Eggon Youth Movement (EYM), political representatives in government both at state and national level, Eggon stakeholders and some ECDA national representatives council members
