West Ham United have parted ways with head coach Graham Potter after just nine months in charge, with Nuno Espirito Santo expected to take over at the London Stadium.
Potter, who was appointed in January on a two-and-a-half-year deal to succeed Julen Lopetegui, failed to improve the Hammers’ fortunes. The club currently sit 19th in the Premier League table after a poor start to the 2025/26 campaign.
In a statement issued on Saturday morning, two days before their clash with Everton, the club confirmed his dismissal:
“Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the board of directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”
Potter departs having won just six of his 23 league matches in charge. West Ham ended last season in 14th place—the same position they occupied when he took over—but their dismal start to the new campaign, which has yielded only three points from five games, sealed his fate.
Last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace proved the breaking point for the board, who have already begun the process of finding a replacement. Sky Sports News reports that former Wolves and Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo is poised to take over.
