Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, said his administration is constantly taking preventive measures to control and contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic because it considers the state to be the worst hit.
Engineer Sule made this know while receiving donations in support of the fight against the pandemic, by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC), at the Government House, on Monday.
The Governor, while dismissing insinuations that the state is yet to record any positive case of coronavirus because it lacks a test centre, said his administration has been utilizing the little resources at its disposal to do the little it can do to protect the people of the state. Commenting further, Engineer Sule dismissed such notion, pointing out that there are presently only five test centres across the country, with only two of such centres in Kano and Abuja.
“States like Kaduna, Bauchi, and other states far removed from the epicentre of the virus, don’t have test centres but have equally recorded positive cases of the pandemic,” he said.
The Governor described Nasarawa State as being the luckiest, being closer to the Federal Capital Territory, with lots of people of the state having been tested, including himself.
“It’s not that we have done anything special, it’s the work of God. But we are not sleeping, we are constantly taking preventive measures, as if Nasarawa State is the worst hit,” he stated.
Speaking on the donation, Engineer Sule expressed appreciation to the board and management of the AEDC, especially, the Chairman of the AEDC Board, Ambassador Shehu Malami.
Earlier, while presenting the donation, Chris Chime, Acting General Manager, Nasarawa Region, AEDC, said the donation was in fulfilment of the company’s corporate social responsibility, aimed at supporting the government’s effort to combat the spread of the COVID-19.
Chime commended the state government’s efforts to fight the pandemic, adding that it’s the company’s prayer that the state, country and entire human race, will come out victorious in the battle against the virus. He expressed satisfaction that Nasarawa State is among the few states in the country that is yet to register any positive case of the virus.
Items donated by the AEDC include, 100 bags of 50kg of rice, 38 bags of 50kg of beans, 60 bags of 25kg Semovita and 40 jerry cans of 25kg of palm oil.
