As the 21st Nigeria Ladies open tees off Thursday at the IBB golf course in Abuja, Nigeria ladies have boasted that they are battle ready for the tournament which also parades other top ladies golfers from other part of the world.
Nigeria top lady golfer, Patience Katchy stated this during a press conference held at the conference room of the IBB golf course on Wednesday. She noted that in a bid to ensure that the Nigeria ladies are not denied the opportunity of winning the top price in a tournament holding at their backyard, they have embarked on an aggressive training program meant to put them in top and proper shape ahead of the game.
Several top Ladies golfers from Uganda, Botswana, Kenya, and even from Europe have all arrived Nigeria for the glamorous Nigeria Ladies open. And indeed, the Nigerians must surely be at their top most form to be able to come top at this tournament.
According to Patience, “A lot of our ladies have been preparing, they have been practicing. In fact, on Monday I was on course, yesterday I was on course and if not for this press conference I would been on course too. In the cause of my practice I discovered that a lot of our ladies including veteran. In fact, yesterday I played with one of the veterans and I was shocked when I saw her swing. So, I can say a lot of our ladies are really up to the task to ensure that the trophy is not taking out of Nigeria,”
Meanwhile, chairperson of the organizing committee, Maryrose Richard Obioha expressed the readiness of the committee to deliver a top class Lady Golf tournament at the IBB golf course in Abuja. She also particularly expressed joy that this year’s Nigeria Ladies open is listed on the world Amateur golf ranking calendar saying that at the end of the day the scores will be collated and sent to them where they would be analyzed and those found okay will be ranked.
“I must not forget to tell you that this 21st IBB ladies open is also listed on the World Amateur golf ranking calendar. So what will happen is that at the end of the Game, the scores will be collated and sent to them where they would be analyzed and those found okay will be ranked. The fact is that it is been listed before now but we have never have anybody ranked from here, but we are hoping that by the end of this tournament we will have some ladies ranked. At least for the first time in Nigeria, Nigeria will be on the ranking as well,”
‘So far we have over 160 Ladies registered, with about 120 within that handicap unit of 0-28. Then we are also expecting men to participate. On the whole we are expecting about 250 participants,” she concluded.
