NYG 2019: Our Athletes are not suffering- FCT Director of Sports fumes at negative reports

Federal Capital Territory Director of Sports, Dilichukwu Onyeadinma has unequivocally denied reports from some section of the media that the Territory Athletes at the ongoing National Youths Games, NYC at Illorin are stranded.

Speaking with our reporter from Illorin, Dilichukwu reacting to the said report noted that the FCT administration is absolutely alive to the responsibilities of the Athletes. Frowning seriously at the media report, she noted that the writer would have done himself a lot of good if he had come to her to find out the true situation of things before going to press.

It was reported that officials of FCT contingent to the Games has been held hostage over unpaid bills and the Athletes stranded.

But, the Director explained that yes, they had some initial challenges just like every other state attending the Games but maintained that at no time were any of their officials held hostage over unpaid bills none their Athletes stranded. She stated that whatever initial challenge they had, had since been taken care of.

Dilichukwu who was extremely angered wondered what the motive of the writer was to have come up with such damaging report, stating further such the report is capable of causing a lot of disaffection in the camp of the FCT athletes.

“The issue is that people must try to understand how government works. There are processes in doing things. You know that we had delays in the release of funds for this Game due to some situation beyond us. And it affected our preparation to some extent. But as I talk to you, all that is in the past, we are here in Illorin and our Athletes are participating well.

“As a matter of fact, it is a blessing that our Minister was reappointed, because since his return to office he had ensured that the fund was processed. So, rather than people trying to run him down he should be saluted for his effort that these children are participating at this Game just like their counterpart from other states of the Federation,” Dilichukwu concluded.

So far, FCT Athletes have been putting up a good show at the Games winning almost all the gold medals at the gymnastic event and still putting up a good show at the other events of the Games.
