Heartland FC Technical Manager, Coach Emmanuel Amunike, has outlined his football philosophy and youth development vision ahead of this weekend’s crucial clash with Inter Lagos.

Speaking exclusively to the CEO of Silvernews Communication, Kennedy Onwunali, at the team’s Egbu Emekukwu training ground, the former African Footballer of the Year and ex-Sporting Lisbon and Barcelona forward stressed the need for Nigerian football to embrace a development-focused culture that gives young players real opportunities.
“Nigeria has talent in abundance, but we lack a clear pathway for youngsters to grow, make no mistakes about it. If we don’t give young players a chance, football will never reach its full potential,” Amunike said.
On the differences between the Nigeria National League (NNL) and the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), he explained that while the tactical, physical, and administrative standards are similar, the NPFL is faster, more demanding, and slightly more technical.
“Players and clubs must be ready for that step up. Heartland is adapting to the pace of the NNL, which can be quicker due to its younger squads,” he added.
Looking ahead to the showdown with Inter Lagos, Amunike expressed confidence in his team’s progress.
“Every game is a chance to grow. Inter Lagos are strong opponents, but we are focused on discipline, commitment, and taking our chances. Make no mistake about it, we are ready to give our fans a performance they can be proud of,” he said.
The Heartland technical crew remains committed to building a competitive squad that will make Imo State proud. Fans will be keen to see Amunike’s philosophy translate into a winning performance this weekend in Owerri.
