The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has once again demonstrated the power of visionary leadership and structured sports development as its flagship handball teams; Safety Shooters (Men) and Safety Babes (Women) were crowned champions of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2025, after a thrilling finale on Friday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Institute of Sports, Surulere, Lagos.
This historic double triumph stands as a clear manifestation of the deliberate investment, unmatched support, and strategic sports development blueprint championed by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, whose leadership continues to elevate the Corps beyond core road safety operations into a national model for sports excellence and youth development within the paramilitary ecosystem.
The 2025 season climaxed in emphatic fashion as Safety Shooters reclaimed the men’s championship for the first time since 2020, topping the league table with 57 points, backed by 18 wins, a formidable goal difference of +214, and a commanding 43–32 victory over Chief of Army Staff Shooters (COAS Shooters) on the final day.
On their part, the indomitable Safety Babes sealed a record breaking fifth consecutive women’s title and their sixth overall after a spirited 27–24 win over Rima Queens, further cementing their status as the most dominant women’s team in the history of Nigerian handball.
These achievements are not accidental; they reflect the Corps Marshal’s renewed commitment to harnessing sports as a tool for discipline, mental fitness, teamwork, talent development, and national representation. Under his watch, the Corps has reinvigorated its sports structure, strengthened coaching capacity, improved welfare for athletes, and provided an enabling environment for talent to thrive producing champions who now stand tall on the national stage.
Friday’s grand finale, attended by members of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) board and top officials of Ardova PLC, celebrated not only league champions but also the rising professionalism in Nigerian handball. The President of HFN, Mr. Jibril Saidu Ojih (FNSQ), commended Ardova’s sustained sponsorship of the league, while Ardova’s Deputy Managing Director, Mrs. Abiola Babatunde-Ojo, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to advancing the sport.
The dual victory of the Safety Shooters and Safety Babes reinforces FRSC’s expanding legacy in sports and validates the Corps Marshal’s strategic vision that a motivated, physically fit, and mentally sharpened workforce ultimately delivers better service to the nation.
With this audacious triumph, FRSC stands proudly at the summit of Nigerian handball, champions on the court, and champions in the pursuit of excellence.
