Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has sought for the extension of the N213m rural electricity project in Wayo, in Wamba Local Government Area, to be extended to cover more communities in the area.
Engineer Sule put in the request while hosting the contractor handling the project, led by Hon. Musa Wayo, a former chairman of Wamba Local Government Area, who came on a courtesy call at the Government House, on Tuesday.

The Governor said the state government is willing to shoulder additional cost in order to extend the project to other communities.

“What I noticed in this kind of project is that we will end up having over capacity in generation but the usage is less, therefore there will be some neighbouring villages where we may need just about 10, 15 poles where we can add and it will extend to other villages,” he stated.

Engineer Sule then directed the General Manager of the Nasarawa Electricity Agency, Engineer Abubakar Ango, to liaise with the contractor to see how the government can come in to ensure neighbouring communities also benefit from the project.

He commended Hon. Wayo for relentless pursuing the project even after leaving office, until the contract for the project was finally awarded.

The Governor described the project as being capable of impacting on the livelihood of the people, especially rural communities around Wamba.

He urged the contractor to deliver the job on time and according to specification.

North Central Zonal Coordinator, Rural Electrification Agency, Engineer Mohammed Sallau, said the project, costing about N213m is the biggest in the state and will include national grid extension in transformer network, among others.

Engineer Sallau said the agency is willing to extend the project to neighbouring local government if they cannot exhaust the power in Wayo.
