The Federal Capital Territory Football Association Chairman, Abbah Muktar has declared that he has the plan to make the annual Abuja Football League one of the most exciting leagues in the country.

The second round of the league kicked off last week with two highly entertaining matches played on resumption day. Muktar, speaking with www.theajasanews.com explained that it is their plan to take it to a level where Abuja teams would have a sense of belonging.

He said, “We intend to make it a great competition because this is actually the foundation of football and what we are trying to build, so this is it all. This is what we are trying to build from ground up so that we can attract sponsors, we can discover new players and we can give all the teams in Abuja a sense of belonging and for it to be a acceptable standard.

The football enthusiast maintained that the league will also provide a platform for the bigger clubs in the Territory, Nigeria and the world would come and pick talents discovered.

“Talents discovered from the league are expected to feed the country generally and even the world. There are a lot of scouting event here which we encourage as an FA, because at the end of the day the players are the main actors and we look to encouraging them, pushing them so that they can better their life and also fly the FCT flag. We have been successful in doing that and I think now everybody feel the breath of fresh air in the FCT whereby football is thriving.

He expressed delight with the standard of football displayed by the participating teams maintaining that it surpasses the standard of most of the other National Leagues matches he had watched in Nigeria.

“It is actually higher than what I even expected because I have watched the National League and I have watched the Amateur League, this has really been so impressive, end to end football, no complain and all the teams have been very combative and the players have really giving it their all. So, am been very very excited with the standard,” he said.
