The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, on Thursday led a special enforcement and sensitisation campaign against overloading along the Gwagwalada–Giri highway in the Federal Capital Territory.

The exercise, carried out by a combined team of FRSC officers, focused on engaging motorists, commercial drivers and transport operators on the dangers of overloading, a major contributor to road crashes and fatalities nationwide.

Mohammed, who personally supervised the operation, said the campaign was part of renewed efforts by the Corps to reduce road traffic accidents, especially as the festive season approaches

He emphasised that overloading not only endangers passengers and drivers but also puts pressure on roads and vehicles, increasing the likelihood of preventable accidents.

The Corps Marshal was accompanied by leaders of the Road Transport Workers’ Union, who pledged support for ongoing efforts to improve safety standards across major travel corridors.

Mohammed commended the collaboration, noting that strengthening partnerships with transport unions remains vital to securing safer roads for Nigerians.

He assured that the FRSC will sustain public enlightenment and enforcement activities to ensure improved compliance with traffic regulations.
