As part of efforts to effectively manage traffic gridlock currently being experienced across the Lagos Metropolis, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has promised to strengthen the Command’s traffic enforcement with 1000 police officers.

He said both institutions had agreed to form an alliance to resolve the menace in view of the total disregard for traffic rules and regulations by motorists, despite various public enlightenment campaigns, imploring roads users to maintain discipline by obeying the traffic rules and regulations.

The Commissioner added that increased disobedience of traffic rules led to an increase in logjams and, consequently, necessitated the need for more collaborative efforts with an enforcement agency.

He explained further that as the government strives to play her part by fixing the roads through various ongoing palliative and constructions works, the untoward attitude of motorists remains a major setback towards achieving free flow of traffic.

Oladeinde lamented that to further worsen the scenario, some motorists were being attacked by armed robbers in traffic, while some motorists also attack traffic officials in the course of their official duties.
