“My Daughter Begged Her Father Not To Go Out The Day He Was Killed” – Wife Of Late Policeman

A Woman Identified as Doris is crying out for compensation over the death of her Husband who was a Police Man. According to Mrs Doris during the Endsars protest that took place on October 21st 2020, her Husband who is Identified as Gabriel left their home around 10am. They resided at Ologunfe Awoyaya, Ibeju Lekki area in Lagos, Gabriel went out of his home that day to withdraw cash from the Automated Teller machine not knowing he was going to meet his doom.

Recall that on October 20 2020, Some security Men opened fire on the Endsars protesting youths because they refused to obey the curfew. After that incident occurred people took to the streets and started burning different Police Stations. It was during this chaos created by the youths that her Husband decide to leave their home.

Doris explained that the day her Husband wanted to leave the house, her 3 year old daughter Identified as Goodness began to cry profusely and begged the Man not to go out. Gabriel refused to listen to his little daughter instead he told her that he would return soon, and that they needed that money for foodstuff. Mr Gabriel went out of his home that faithful day with his motorcycle that had a Police Sticker on it.

While Gabriel was on his way to the Automated Teller Machine, some hoodlums were busy attacking Elemoro Police Station. In the process of attacking and trying to burn down the police Station, the Police Men killed one of the hoodlums and his corpse was carried away by the other hoodlums. As the hoodlums were going back to the Police Station, they met Mr Gabriel along the way and grabbed him.

The hoodlums accused him of being a Police Man but Gabried denied it immediately, unfortunately for him the hoodlums searched him and found his Police Identification Card with him. They also searched his phone and saw pictures of him dressed as a Police Man. The hoodlums explained that Gabriel is exactly what they were looking for, they believed he was amongst the people that used to give Policemen information. The hoodlums went ahead and burnt his Motorcycle, they further beat him up mercilessly and placed 7 tyres on his neck to burn him.

Mrs Doris further explained that she was at home with her kids when a Motorcycle rider approached and informed her about the torture her husband was receiving. They advice Doris not to go to the place the incident was happening because the protesters there were busy searching for Police Men and their families.

While Doris was at home with her kids some hoodlums tried to enter their home but the residents stopped them from doing that. Her family had to run away and hide to save their life, the next day those sympathising with her tried to retrieve her husband’s corpse but unfortunately his body had turned into ashes. The people packed some of his ashes and took to the Lagos State University Teaching hospital so an autopsy would be conducted on him.

After a few weeks the ashes of Mr Gabriel was taken to his home in Anambra State for his burial. When the incident occurred Mrs Doris was already 3 months pregnant, she later gave birth to a baby girl few months later. Mrs Doris explained that ever since that incident occurred her family have been in pain even her first daughter keeps asking for her Father to return home. The little girl still believes that her Father went out and he would return home soon.

Mrs Doris explained that her family have been going through a lot and the Lagos State Government and Police authority abandoned them since that incident occurred. Mrs Doris is not asking for justice for her Husband’s death, she simply wants some compensation that would help supper her family.
