None licence teachers would be dropped by December 31st- Education Minister insists

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu has stated that the ministry will begin absolute enforcement of the implementation of dropping of any teacher who does not have the minimum teaching qualification from teaching in any Nigeria school.

The Minister made this declaration during his valedictory press conference held at the ministry conference room in Abuja on Tuesday.

He emphasized that the National Minimum qualification for teaching at any basic and secondary schools in Nigeria is the National Certificate of Education, (NCE).

Outline the progress his administration accomplished during his four year stay at the ministry of Education, Adamu Adamu noted that issue of teachers professional development in terms of registration, training and certification was one area they paid a lot of attention to.

And as a way to further improve the quality of teachers in Nigeria, Adamu Adamu enumerated the progress his administration made in that direction, which he said are, Ensuring the strengthening of the implementation of teachers education by reviewing the Quality Assurance/monitoring instruments in line with global best practice.

Engage independent Quality Assurance team and stakeholders in monitoring of all academic activities.

Conduct nationwide capacity building workshops for 10,000 teachers at Basic and Post Basic levels through the support of SDGs in several areas.

Equipping new and serving teachers with skills that will make them globally competitive, Collaborating with state Government in conducting capacity building workshops for teachers to further introduce them to modern methods of instructions, and developed and installed software based on the latest technology to fast track examination and result processing.

The outgoing minister concluded in that direction that under his administration, the federal Ministry of Education recruited a total of 3,605 personnel to beef up its man power. This he stressed where made up of 905 Education Officers, (Teachers) recruited through the Federal Civil Service Commission and 2,700 junior Officers recruited directly by the ministry.
